REGINA CALIFA TO JOINS CONGOLESE CAMP 2010! Congo Camp Maui is an extension of a of a legacy totaling over 3 decades, promoting and cultivating Congolese Dance, Drum & Culture...it is with honor and personal joy as Califa's most profound African Dance experience, was 1st with Ta Malonga Casquelourd himself, ushered by Dance Mentor Paula Fleury-McCullum, at Berkeley Highschool; She later joined Fua Dia Congo after College, and was a founding member of an all female-drum corp-Diata, Diata. In the wake of the pioneer's untimely death, Ms. Califa coalesced her Artistic leadership with administration and activism, serving on the  Center's Arts Coalition responsible for the historic renaming ceremony of the building: Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts. The crowning glory of this tenure was in 2007 the Company's 30 yr Anniversary Celebration tribute, serving as Creative Consultant and dancing the choreographies she learned in highschool. Today, bridged with the next generation of this legacy, Califa tenaciously constructs signature cultural workshops bridging Africa and diaspora traditions for education and cultural preservation, embarking upon Artistic innovation...It is this work to be offered up at the Congo Camp Maui via Brasilian and Cuban Dance, highlighting Congo elements! |visit the site for photos!: www.congolesecamp.org--------->>>>>
